BEGINNER RUG HOOKING KIT

Hi folks,  I thought I would show you a small rug hooking kit that I'm working on and will be selling in the shop.  I have done a beginner class with this little mat and hooks up well.  I'm trying to keep costs down so its affordable for new rug hookers.  The kit will include a hook, pattern, cut material to any approximate  color specified for the rose, binding, cording and instructions.  The hook can be taken out for the person that already has one and priced accordingly. The finished mat will be about 14"x 9" and can be used to hang on the wall or on a table.  I will show you the mat again when finished and the kit itself. So here is the unfinished mat so far.

I had the day off today and what a gorgeous day it is out there  and I am thankful to have it.  Since its a clear day, what a great way to take pictures to get the right colors of the wool.  I decided to post my green spot dyes today.  These colors were spot dyed using Magic Carpet dyes and Christine Little's spot dye Formula book .  So here are a few with some green.  These spot dyes are great for rug hooking backrounds, foliage and flowers or whatever suits your fancy.  The dyed wool is from Rebecca Erb's natural wool, its so soft to the touch and also some from the Oxford Woolen Mills.

Start thinking about Christmas crafts

Can you believe all this rain we're getting? Enough already.
I thought I would put my red wool in my shop up for sale tonight, since we have to start thinking about xmas crafts.  What a great deal this is and I only  have a few yards left and will be on sale for a few weeks.

RED WOOL
$7.50/ 1/2 yard PLUS SHIPPING
Mesures approx. 30"x18"
I tried getting the red as true as possible in the picture but its not easy.  This wool has a nice deep red color and not to bright. Great for rug hooking and holds up well to #4 cut on the cutter and perfect for any wool appliques if your looking for that nice festive color.

Do you know what a make-do is?

I've been intrigued lately by these make-do's that I've been seeing  on the internet.  So last night I made one and decided to put one on my selling blog today.  But before I show you, I thought I would give you a little history on what is a Make-do, for those of you out there who don't have a clue.

According to Stephanie Baker of Old World Primitives,
A make-do is created using items that are immediately available, historically out of necessity.  Make-dos can either be antique or new (often made to look old by primitive folk artists).  They incorporate items that broke and were repaired using whatever was on hand, or broken parts that were used in creating something new.  The most common make-dos are handmade pincushions added to the top of the salvaged bases of broken candlestick holders, oil lamps, or teapots.  Pincushion make-dos created by women who made do with what they had were prevalent during the 18th & 19th centuries.

So here is my make-do
