Just looking around the backyard

After weeks of rain here in the Atlantic province, the sun was out again today and by the afternoon you could walk around the yard without a jacket on. As I was walking about checking the flower beds in the back that are just finally showing that they survived, I spotted three gorgeous giant tulips that my hubby planted last fall by the little shed. I had to take pictures and thought I would show you since the sun was so bright against the shed. They almost look plastic, can you see the little knome hiding within the flowers? I envy all the southern American gals that have been blogging about their gardens and flower beds, since we are so behind in the season this year. Now we can finally see the light here in the Maritimes. So here are my giant short tulips.

Felt Applique Pillow Hangers

I just made these little pillows with my folk sampler hand embroidered appliques. The black pillow is made of felt and the brown rust and blue backings are out of wool material. The hangers are made of standard size copper wire and easy to bend to your choice. These are great little prim pillows to hang on a wall or door knob. The pillows mesure 6" square.

FIDDLE HEAD PICKIN TIME

Hubby and I had a great time this afternoon picking fiddle heads down our road with a neighbor who showed us a secret patch where he used to pick fiddle heads has a young lad. We picked about one half of a 10lb bucket along a secluded brook and there is still time to pick more in a couple of days. But that will be it for the season. We also discovered a nice place to do some trout fishing within the next few weeks. So here are a couple of pictures to show you our bounty for tonights supper and freezer.

WOOL LABYRINTH MANDALAS

I went to a Wellness Expo recently and was inspired to make these Mandalas after reading about how to meditate. The eastern practice of Mandala meditation has been used for centuries as an effective tool in calming the soul and clearing the mind of clutter. Mandala meditation is for the beginner and the long-time meditater alike. It may be of particular utility to those that have difficulty sitting still and being in the moment, as concentrating on an object helps to focus energy inside the present self. As in all meditation practices, there is no right or wrong way.

I decided to needle felt a Labyrinth on the wool so you can easily trace it with your finger with your eyes open or close while you clear your mind in getting ready to meditate. Some people like to put the Mandala up on a wall and focus on it before meditation.

I used heavy wool material and added a glass bead in the center and at the bottom with my initials. They all mesure about 12"X12". I really enjoyed making these and it helps me to calm the mind when I use it also.

I have several of these, so when ordering please specify the color backround you would like to have.
